Zero McKenna Celtic Discussions as Craig Bellamy Pledges to Welsh National Team
Kieran McKenna and Wales head coach have been connected with the Celtic manager position
Ipswich Town's their manager declares he has had "no conversations" with the Glasgow club about their coaching position, while Wales head coach the former striker is dedicated to completing his squad's World Cup campaign.
Each are being considered with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week.
McKenna's Stance on Celtic
The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.
The mid-thirties assumed control of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.
"I have not had such discussions," the London-born ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.
"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is this week.
"I have a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Everything external hasn't reached my awareness."
Context and Contractual Aspects
Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.
"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."
The coach signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.
"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!
"I tackle this role like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as long as I remain in position."
Bellamy's Position
The former striker played for the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to finish the ongoing global tournament qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.
The Welsh squad are currently in third place in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.
Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as Group J second place.
Considering his current position, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
