Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.
On the Tremendous Audience Reaction
Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Will the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?
So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.
“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”
Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?
“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
