Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing the match official to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his second in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, combining well with Kevin Danso as the pair handled superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees missing striker's instinct

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.

Everton: The team head to Sunderland in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.
