The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
