Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
