Supporters Call for Detainment of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a man who leaped a barricade and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the Australian man shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was due to be present on the next day. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram feed contains clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different witches.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 award recognitions, winning two for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
