Los Angeles experienced citywide festivities after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Supporters worldwide joined local residents in celebration, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Victory Parade Draws Enormous Crowds
Los Angeles area celebrations featured a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties across the city.
Online footage show thousands of Angelenos packing downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” the star player remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the players emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist driving a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Festivities started prior to the parade, with supporters setting off fireworks in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the win.
“We refuse to lose,” he said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler reception at the rally. Video footage from the gathering seem to depict Walter taking the stage to a combination of applause and jeers, with jeers punctuating his speech.
The championship acted as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed equal or greater enthusiasm.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
