Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Problems.

'Serious blow' for the touring side as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems when he left the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

Team management indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "during the day".

The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway at the end of the week.

England have been without key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he came back on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the previous Test.
