The UK is set to progress with utilizing the entire amount of frozen Russia's holdings to support Ukraine's war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a joint statement, the heads of state of the UK, France, and Germany emphasized that this joint measure would escalate tension on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the move would be executed in close cooperation with the United States.

United Kingdom restrictions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian funds since Moscow launched its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, previously, resources allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russia's assets had only been sourced from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their aim to drive progress toward using the total worth of the immobilized Russian sovereign holdings to halt hostilities.

He added that more restrictions in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on Moscow.

This declaration follows European officials met in the Danish capital recently to debate using immobilized Russian assets for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.

In the previous month, US President Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to take or utilize immobilized Russian funds, as reported by news outlets.

The total of frozen Russian assets in the EU is calculated to be almost €211bn.

Moscow carried out widespread missile and drone strikes across the Ukrainian territory on Friday, causing blackouts in large parts of the capital city, Kyiv, and eight other regions.

A pair of individuals were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the assault, Ukrainian officials reported.

In a post on X after the strike, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack focused on civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What is required is not just talk but firm measures - from the America, EU, and the Group of Seven - in providing anti-aircraft weapons and applying penalties," he stated.

"All penalty impositions undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky informed reporters he would press Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which alliance members purchase arms from the America to provide to Ukraine.

While applauding the UK's consistent assistance for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should indicate firmly that it would take part in the program, as well as impose further sanctions on the Russian Federation.
