Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”

He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so we'll see.”

Persistent Problems and Player Reaction

Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”

He stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
